Important Safety Update: Weather, Air Quality, and Heat Precautions for Summer School Students

Dear families,

As we continue through our summer school session, the health and safety of your children remain our top priority. The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory that remains in effect through July 10, 2026. In addition, the South Coast Air Quality Management District has forecasted elevated air quality levels.

In accordance with Los Angeles Unified School District policy guidelines, Hubbard is actively taking several protective measures to prevent heat stress and keep our students safe:

  • Monitoring Conditions: Our administration and staff are closely monitoring local weather updates, the Heat Index, and Air Quality Indexes throughout the day to adjust school activities dynamically.
  • Activity Modifications: During peak heat and poor air quality periods, we will limit physical exertion and move recreational and physical education activities indoors or into well-shaded areas.
  • Hydration: Water is readily available across our campus. We highly recommend sending your child to school with a personal, non-breakable water container (up to 32 ounces) to ensure they stay hydrated before, during, and after daily activities.

How You Can Help:

  • Dress Appropriately: Please dress your child in lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing to help keep them cool.
  • Sun Protection: We encourage applying sunscreen and sending your child with a hat for outdoor time.
  • Keep Us Informed: If your child has a medical condition or takes medication that makes them particularly sensitive to heat, please notify our school office or the school nurse so we can provide extra attention.

Thank you for your partnership in keeping the Hubbard school community safe and healthy.

Warmly,

Hubbard Street Elementary School
